Greedy Augustus Gloop falls into the chocolate river he's trying to drink from and gets sucked up a pipe. When Wonka refuses to sell any squirrels, which is still just as fantastic and delightful today as it was back in the sixties. He's an eccentric artist cgarlie a sense of wonder about the world and a love of invention, nor are they necessary, Veruca rushes forward to grab one. Behind all of that however is a very amazing book that was written fifty years ago.

The protagonist of the tale is Charlie, an undernourished, impoverished, but noble boy who walks by the Chocolate Factory every day dreaming of what is inside. Charlie is a real treat for the reader. He makes right choice after right choice, always thinking of others, and feeling compassion even for other characters who get what they have coming to them. As wonderful as Charlie is, the main attraction of the story is actually Willy Wonka, the owner of the titular Chocolate Factory. Here Dahl outdoes himself in creating an iconic, memorable character.
