Back on my classics kick, I pulled out my trusty, completely random Google list of the top novels and was pleased to see that, thankfully, War and Peace was not the next in line. Instead, a gothic novella told by my all-time favorite childhood writer, Robert Louis Stevenson, greeted me.

Book Review - Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

It was interesting, I'd like to look more into the ,r of the Hawaii setting. Murder and monstrosity on the streets of Victorian London. New factories were being built all over English cities, by the name of Carew, as well as by the railway. Be still my heart. Things then begin to grow more serious as Hyde is blamed for the murder of a notorious MP.

Nineteenth century London can be a very dangerous place. Beneath the prim and proper morals of Victorian society lurks a violent madman who emerges at night to commit the most cold-hearted of crimes. Nothing is known of him except his name: Mr Hyde. Just who is this evil man? A lawyer and a doctor beginning their own investigation are shocked to find that Mr Hyde is an acquaintance of their respectable friend Dr Henry Jekyll. It is one of his best-known books and has remained in the public imagination for well over a century; its sheer eeriness and brilliantly shocking twists have inspired numerous popular adaptations.

The title character, who is a virtuous doctor by day and a delinquent by night, struggles to hide his double identity from the world. Yet he is more than that — far from the Multiple Personality Disorder presented in movies like Split, Jekyll and Hyde actually look different. Utterson, as he tries to save his friend from his darker side. Interestingly, this book really reminds me of Dracula. In Dracula, the evil seems to come from the physical condition of being a vampire itself, and once a person is converted, he or she is doomed regardless of previous virtues. 👩‍👩‍👦
