Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan catapulted authors to the top of bestseller charts, with their annual list, which was discussed on their daily Channel 4 prime time TV chat show. After such success stories as their endorsement for Starter for Ten by David Nicholls, which increased its sales by per cent, the pair's hunt for a rare "captivating and distracting holiday book" became one of the most important events in Britain's publishing calendar. But when they moved their show to digital television channel in , due to low ratings, their influence in publishing has markedly declined. Their declining influence is perhaps also due in part to people finding book advice on digital platforms and sales outlets like Amazon. This year's list was put out, without fanfare, on their website, and made a sidebar in the Mirror's profile interview about the couple's marriage. It's a varied list with guaranteed bestsellers and new fiction by debut novelists.
